This garden (center photo above) is by the side door. I wanted bright colors to greet us each time we come home. This winning combination did the trick – hot pink double wave petunias and yellow portulaca (the label said “purslane”). Added bonus: both do well in hot, dry southern summer sun.
These are annuals (meaning they last only one season) but since it’s such a tiny spot (room for only 3 of each plant), it doesn’t take much time or money to re-plant each summer.
A note about portulaca: The deer didn’t bother these by the side porch. But on the other side of the driveway, they chomped them down to the nub. Plants with individual spreads of about 2 feet – gone in one night! So if you plant any of these, be sure to provide deer protection.
P.S. Pink & Yellow Garden Notecards are available. They look like the photo below – only larger (6 1/4 X 4 5/8 inches). If you’d like, you can order here.
